Calvin and Hobbes!

Childhood, please come back to me :)

Since 1985, these comics have been inspiring and fascinating both children and adults. At first glance, it seems like it is just a regular comedic sequence between well made characters, but Bill Watterson manages to keep that childish exterior and place a deeper meaning into it. Social problems are featured here, with strips focusing on things like discrimination, lack of family values, and addiction to technology(Calvin's TV). Even the fact that Calvin and Hobbes are named after intellectuals(John Calvin and Thomas Hobbes) adds to it. The best part about this, for me, is the relationship between Calvin and his "tiger", Hobbes. Calvin sees Hobbes as an anthropomorphic tiger, which is basically his best friend. No one else sees Hobbes that way though, which gives us readers two different views of not only the tiger, but of life. I think this is a way for us to see realize that children have a happier outlook on life. None of the mundane repetitions that a lot of adults see in life. We need to be more positive and enjoy the little things, just as this boy and his tiger manage to do.

So, as an avid reader and a fan of the Calvin and Hobbes series, thanks for reminding me of my childhood, if there are any more produced, i would get them and enjoy them just like old times, just like when I was a kid. No question :)

Oh, Childhood.

POKEMON. This ate up so much of my time as a kid.
So hearing this piano medley of some parts of the "soundtrack" really cheers me up :)

Animals

In my philosophy class, we are being taught that animals do not actually have any intellect and act only upon instinct.

I'm unsure of this right now, especially with all those stories and videos of animals transcending their so called limitations. Here is a video of a comedic interaction between two animals. There are a lot more interesting videos such as heroic pets and the like, but I think this would be more useful for cheering up :)

Heroes Still Exist Today.

This just puts a smile on my face :)

It's hard to be brave, especially in times where one is in danger. A robbery, for instance, could be very bad for any people willing to play "hero". Yet here comes this guy, Larry Skopnik, in a wheelchair to save the day. Truly amazing.

It Gets Better!

This doesn't only apply to video games, it goes for everything else too! :)

I love the message here. Sure, it was meant to be something for a popular FPS game, but you can take what you learn and apply it to life. Anyway, virtual reality still has "reality" :)
Thanks to Nerfnow for the pic.

Evolution of the controller

The video game is the canvas, our imagination is the paint, these are the brushes.

Personally, the Playstation controllers have been the best for me. Wii Isn't that bad once you get used to it.
Any thoughts?

Ryan Dunn, Rest In Peace.

I know this blog is supposed to cheer people up

but I believe that when a person who made a lot of people laugh through his work dies in a car crash, we need to pay our respects. Mr. Dunn was a mainstay for both the Jackass crew and the CKY crew, though I was never an avid fan of the latter(Didnt really watch Viva La Bam that much). As a regular viewer of Jackass, I saw the abuses he took in order to entertain us, and people may be thinking of how insane this person was, or how he was just a punk doing stunts. I saw someone dedicated to his work, and who was doing something meaningful in his life. So again, rest in peace Ryan Dunn, and thanks for the memories. :)

The Ocean

"Let your waves crash down on me and take me away"
    - Ocean Avenue, by Yellowcard :)

I just love how the ocean manages to cheer me up. It has a soothing and calming effect on me. Whether it be on a boat ride or a beach, the effect it has on me is always positive(Never mind the sunburn). This picture was taken from my rest house in the province. :)

A Thinking Man's Movie

Fight Club made me rethink a lot of things. Made me happy too. :)

He just made billions happy.

"SCHADENFREUDE"
This is a German word that basically means getting pleasure from the losses or misfortunes of others.
When Lebron James and "his" Miami Heat lost to the Dallas Mavericks in the finals, and blame was put on his disappearance in important situations, it sparked an emotional wave amongst the multitudes of people waiting on him to fall. This dates back to when he promised a championship for the Cleveland Cavaliers, then made a decision on national television that broke the hearts of a city, and caused other NBA fans to vilify him along with the other members of the so called "Big 3".

We have here a rare kind of player. On one hand, Lebron James manages to cheer people up with his talent, athleticism, and spectacular plays. On the other, we have a player who people absolutely love to hate, and through his losses, he cheers people up.
